Chapter 350

So they gypsies are on the move again and my 82 year-old mother and 91 year-old Andy are moving again after just having moved to Olympia a year ago. To make a short story long, they did not like the hustle and bustle of Olympia and the monthly fire drills. "The cats don't like being loaded up in their crates and carried down 3 flights of stairs each month. It scares them to death." Therefore, they have moved back to the peace and quiet of Shelton where no cat-loading is required. This time right downtown with easy access to everything.

Their address:

Yet another not-so-exciting week passes at the Book household. We have friends that have been at the cabin more often than us so we figured we'd better get down there and make sure it didn't need anything. Al and Bobbie literally spend more time than we do at the cabin and leave it cleaner than we do as well. Al and Bobbie can all their own foods so they hit several clam tides at the cabin that resulted in all of these canned clams. We saw in our cabin journal that they walked over 17 miles on the beach one day. Pretty good for an old retired couple!

We saw on the news that the traffic was horrible through the JBLM so we waited until later to head out. At a time when Nitro is typically in this basket sleeping or watching tv, he found himself riding in the car in it and wasn't really thrilled about it.

Saturday morning dawned and when I opened my eyes, this greeted me. Nitro does not get canned food at home, but he knows very well that he gets canned breakfast and dinner at the cabin and he was making darned sure I didn't forget this little detail.

It was so pretty and sunny I ran outside to soak some of it up. Since you've all seen about a million pictures around the cabin, I'll show you our crusty yard ornaments this time.

Oh, and how's this for shiny? Bob has the Subaru so polished you can see the petals on the little daisies in the grass on the rear fender of the car.

Long Beach is a quirky little town and there's a chance you could see just about anything. How about a big ol' helicopter (Ask Chris if you want to know what kind it is.) This would have been amazing to see driving down the road. There was also a bunch of marching band moms watching over their flock while they went crazy in this little park. I remember those days.

Every little town has a cannon and a miniature biplane...

...and a school of motorcycles. In this case, they are getting ready for the Loyalty Days parade that Long Beach hosts every year. We also saw a Franklin-Pierce school bus with a marching band on it. We wondered if Kyanne was chaperoning.

The dune grass is growing really tall. The North Head lighthouse is on the point you can see and the tracks in the dunes is the emergency vehicle path in case they need to get out there.

Since you've see a ton of beach pictures, this time you get a shadow picture of us.

And a bald eagle wood carving.

Saturday we went to Costco in Astoria to get vitamins. We left with a set of lounge chairs. I wonder what they spray in the air at Costco that makes you want to buy things? At least they were tax free. Here Bob is testing his out with his blankie and popcorn by the fire instead of in the backyard in the sun.

Nitro's usual navigator pose as we head for home.

He eventually settles into his basket and rides quietly for a while before it's time to get back in the navigator's seat and take charge of the drive again.

Since it's nice, we bust out our new lawn chairs and watch the wildlife.

Reagan riding her bike. She looks like such a big girl with her giant helmet on.

And back to being a toddler giving her dinosaur a drink.

Yummy pizza out for the evening and good manners busted out for the evening.

Giving a very patient Gatsby a checkup. Does he realize he could end up with punctured eardrums before this role playing is over?

Reagan is now speaking in sentences
"Bear dog, drink water. OK. Thank you."

The dynamic duo at it again. Never very far apart, they consider themselves siblings.

Happy Reagan laughing at her Mom.
