Last Wednesday we took our little circus on the road, including Dipper the cat. He's endless entertainment to me in traffic jams. Why is it that dogs are cute when they are looking out a car window and their owners are considered thoughtful to take their dogs on stimulating outings? If you have a cat looking out the car window...we'll that's just wierd and neither crazy you or your crazy cat should be allowed out of the house for any reason.
Thursday was our anniversary and we celebrated by painting the cabin all day then went to the 42nd Street Cafe' http://www.42ndstreetcafe.com/ for dinner.
http://www.funbeach.com/attractions/walk_oysterville.html There are lots of historical old buildings such as this church built in 1873. The town actually started in 1854. It was the county seat for 20 years until citizens of South Bend literally stole the county records forcing Oysterville to surrender it's county seat.
We hiked down to the Nahcotta Bay side of the peninsula. The water is calm and it is also a beautiful water view. We've never seen the view from here. This picture is looking north. You can see the tip of the peninsula curving back toward us. That is Leadbetter Point State Park and Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.
The traffic and fireworks start early here on the ends of the earth. Dips does not like fireworks and clearly demonstrated this by wedging himself behind the hot water tank while I searched in vain outside for him. He will, however, sit next to a running air compressor and leisurely eat his kitty dinner with apparent ease.
On the Fourth, we grabbed our blanket and headed down to the War Zone. If it explodes folks brought it to the beach to blow it up. People were camped four campsites deep between the dunes and the ocean. It was unbelievable how many campsites were crowded onto the beach. Bear in mind this is a 28 mile long beach and there were plenty of wide-open space left. I guess the crowd is part of the party.

...and I just liked this seagull's patriotism on this our country's birthday so here he is.
I hope you all had as enjoyable of a holiday as this guy appeared to.
Oh, I almost forgot. We are officially Old Farts. After we got home, the police pulled over a DUI by Subway. While we drank our beers, we got a full view of the drunk testing of the driver (failed), the drunk testing of the proposed new driver (failed). This resulted in the driver being cuffed and arrested, and the other three young'uns being taken away (most likely to wake Mom and Dad up with the holiday news) in a State Patrol car. The we were on the edge of our seats as the tow truck came and took the driverless SUV (probably someone's unhappy Mom's).
Finally, the place to be the day after the Fourth is the Subway. There were a lot of cold, wet, hungover, red-eyed folks staggering in for food and coffee!

Happy Belated Anniversary--you both were on my mind on the 1st. Glad you had a somewhat safe and sane 4th!
