Chapter 295

Last week Chris during drill, Chris got to take a C-17 ride over to Eastern Washington for a supply drop. The spring day was one of those amazing clear days that Washington get on occasion. Chris literally had a front row seat to get a fantastic view of Mt. Rainier.

The pilots circled Mt. Rainier so those on board could get a 360 degree view.

And what a view it was.

There's not a lot of snow on top considering this is where our water comes from.

Bob had a little adventure on his way to work last week. A big ol' truck truck ran a stop sign and attacked our poor little PT Cruiser. As you can see it scared the parts off of the Cruiser.

Fortunately it was really a micro-collision and no one was hurt but the Cruiser. It appears to be mostly cosmetic and readily repairable. The truck driver was so angry when he hit the Cruiser that he jumped out of his truck with the engine running and locked his keys in the car. Bob wasn't going to let him get away before he got his insurance and ID information from inside so they both waited on their own sides of the street until the locksmith could come open the truck. I can't imagine the $180 to unlock the truck after just causing an accident did much to improve the truck owner's day.

We may be having awesome weather but at JoAnn's house down in Albany, Oregon, it's not at all the same story. It's kind of like our previous week of roulette weather.

Since our school is under construction, the greenhouse has yet to be built. The school district seems to think that a plastic tarp garage from Costco will work just as well as a temperature-controlled, ventilated greenhouse. This was not the case so most of the plants died. *Surprise!* As a result the horticulture teacher had to order plants for their annual sale from a wholesaler. She had arranged with the school district for a box truck to store them in for the night but at the last minute, the district decided she really didn't need it (*surprise!*) so in the midst of a pouring rain I made the decision they they would live in the shop overnight. To save space we put them on the lift, raised it up and filled the space under the lift. It not only beautified the shop but it smelled wonderful.

Yes, that's Logan riding a clown bike in the auto shop full of flowers. Just another average day in the auto shop.

To spare Kyanne toe stories if she reads this, I won't go into detail about my injury, but suffice it to say that after you stub your toe on a shopping cart wheel, don't soak your foot in callus remover or you will find yourself at a wound care clinic. You really couldn't see there was a problem since the wound looked like all of my other toenails.

Reagan came to stay with us Saturday while Chris and Carissa went to The Phantom of the Opera, dinner, and out for a beer. Reagan was running a fever and was not happy about much of anything. Poor kid.

She eventually found happiness after a dropper full of ibuprophen and enjoyed sharing her cup full of puffs with "E", who was never too far away.

Even though Reagan didn't feel too well, she still did a great job making a Mother's Day present for her Mom (and one for Auntie Kyanne). In my typical fashion, I forgot to take a picture of the finished product. Maybe Carissa or Kyanne will share one with us so I can show you next week.

For Mother's day, Bob bought me a new fountain for the back yard "compound" as Kyanne calls it. It looks nice with the other containers we have in the back yard and makes lots of water racket so we feel like we got our money's worth. It was only in place a couple of hours and a bird was taking a bath in the lower pool of water, Carissa and Kyanne had put soap in it, Bear drank from it, and Reagan played in it. I see it will bring many hours of happiness for more than just me in the following summer months.

Oddly enough, the carton it came in was not cardboard, but corrugated plastic. As Carissa said, you are a nature lover and buy something to beautify your yard and it comes in a corrugated plastic box. Nice move, China.

Chris and Bear took advantage of the nice weather we had this morning to give Bear a good scrub-down. They like to do it here since we have lots of area for Bear's post-bath zoomies.

Speaking of dogs, Kyanne posted this picture on her Facebook page. It totally captures the essence of greyhounds.

Surprising us all, Gatsby has turned into quite the baby entertainer. He's never far from the action and doesn't seem to mind if Reagan mauls him. This is not the reaction we expected from him at all.

Carissa and Reagan went to the beach one day last week and just as Bear rests his heavy head on the window sill to look out, Reagan rests her head on a log while she digs in the sand. This is much easier than holding her head up on her own.

Reagan lounging in her chair with "E".

Reagan took a pre-bedtime selfie while I was entertaining her with the front-facing camera. Pretty good for her first selfie, don't you think?

Here she entertains herself with the remote while enjoying her chair. She like having the baby shaker part turned on and experimented with her voice to listen to the funny sound it made. Notice the yardstick creating Reagan-proof sewing drawers.

Wrangling Baby to do the manditory Mother's Day project.

Not so happily sitting in Grampa's lap. She's wasn't unhappy to be with Grampa, just unhappy to be anywhere.

Still not well, but sporting a piece of banana on her nose.

We could hardly wait to get Reagan to bed since she was running a fever and obviously didn't feel well so she wasn't uncomfortable any more. Then she made a miraculous bounce-back as babies do. She was happy, talking, and actually playing so we let her enjoy herself a bit before bed. After a couple of hours when she gave no indication that she wanted to go to bed, we put her to bed anyway. We didn't want to get in trouble when Chris and Carissa came home.

Here's video of Reagan (I hope) with her night jammies on and the last bottle of the day in her tummy. No, this is not a kiddo that's ready for bed.

  1. First, thank you for the nod to our mom and her bunny's.
Can't believe this is the second Cruiser that has been wrecked--I'm so glad no one was hurt. Might be time for a tank?
