Chapter 292

First off, I'm wishing my parents a great trip to their new home in Richland, Washington. They are moving from Oklahoma to be closer to Bobbie's daughter Bonnie and to me. Since it's cheaper to live in Richland than here and the weather's better, they elected to move to Richland. That's much closer and cheaper than a 6 hour $750 plane ride to see them! Happy trails in your new home.

The weather has been very "spring-like" this week. It springs from rainy to sunny and everything in between. MaryLou and I forged our way through driving hail to get to Costco earlier this week.

And today we took a convertible ride up to Snoqualmie Summit where it was 73 degrees.

We went up there to check out the new brewery up there called Dru Bru. Check out the IKEA candle holders they are using as taster boards. Once again, the summit is making yet another try at growth. This time they are building The Pass Life Community which includes a restaurant, brewery, condos, etc.

After the brewery we walked around and looked at a couple of the other tries at housing growth then walked down the ski slope from there. The fresh snow on the mountain was really pretty. It showed up so well since snowed onto a naked mountain peak.

Remember the days of the rope tow? While your hand was sweating in your leather lined tow mitten, you grabbed onto a moving rope and hoped like heck you didn't embarrass yourself by slipping and taking everyone out that had the misfortune of clinging to the rope below you.

No longer! Now you glide up to a moving conveyor belt, skin onto the belt and enjoy a safe trip free of embarrassment. Of course, all this assumes there's enough snow to reach the deck.

We have had a prospective applicant volunteer his time in our class once a week hoping this would give him extra points when it came time to select the new auto instructor. Kurt is awesome and has been teaching lessons on the days Fred has been out, which has been a lot. Last week Kurt's lesson was about batteries. After his lesson, the kids made potato batteries. This is how the lesson was planned...

...this is where the kids took it with their excitement over the project. After they each made their "batteries", they gathered them up and hooked them all together to see how big of an LED lamp they could power. It was fun to see them so enthused about a lab.

Speaking of school one of our students had the unfortunate experience of receiving a break-up text while standing in our lobby. This poor innocent snack machine received the brunt of the student's anger as he punched the glass out of it. Since I was at the doctor with Dad Book, I had unwittingly left the sub without keys and when they locked the door to keep kids away from the snack machine, next period couldn't get in. After 4th period had stood around outside for a while, the nice campus police officer (Yes, it is still Officer Dotsen) let them in.

The second lunch kids took all the vending machine product and put it in moving totes that Fred had and locked it in his office.

Then my chip order came in for Fred's retirement party and there was a ton of chip in his office. Fortunately he was out sick for a couple of days.

Fred and Ron (the welding teacher) had a great time at their party. Their student's came up with little retirement tokens for them and Logan presented them to Fred and Ron.

One of our past students brought his truck that Fred had helped him restore. It was actually Brandon's grandfather's truck. He gave it to Brandon and Brandon, his dad and grandfather spent six years restoring it without benefit of an indoor space. Not only did the truck look great, but three generations (& Fred) had a lot of special time together. To me, that was the best part.

Bob climbed up to the mechanical deck to take this photo. Yes, he did it while I was talking to the vice-principal who wondered why someone was climbing up there. We had a steady stream of visitors congratulating the guys all the way from 10 - 3. Fun was had by all.

Over the years. we've only had one student with a VW bug. This year we have two in the same class. When they park side-by-side, it almost looks like a before and after photo.

My clematis were out and looking great this week.

Have a good week, Everyone!

It's hard to believe that Reagan is 10 months old already. In a mere 10 months, I have a bunch of outgrown baby stuff in my living room already. I've forgotten how fast babies grow. I guess that's why we have grandchildren--to remind us.

Chris and Carissa bought a new trailer this weekend for the chores around the homestead. Here you can see Reagan giving it her stamp of approval. I hope if they let her ride in the trailer all the way home they at least strapped her in!

Lucky kid got to go on a ferry ride this weekend over to Everett to pick up the trailer. She loves watching the water go by. She's probably seen a real orca whale long before others ever even see one in a book.

Morning snuggles with Reagan and E. This reminds me of Kyanne. She used to love to snuggle in our bed with us.

Looking cute in our swimsuit before swim lessons.

Hey, how do you turn this thing on? I don't see a button.

Reagan loves to read, Read, READ!

  1. That is an impressive auto shop for a high school! Retirement party must mean school is on the home stretch for the year. Bet you can't wait!
