Chapter 236

I was cleaning out some closets and Bob found some old pictures and next thing I know he's watching old slides like Chevy Chase...except he wasn't locked in the attic. (In case you weren't wondering, that's Thumbs the cat on the screen.)

Friday I took a tour of Bob's new building, Orion.  It's a beautiful facility and he has his own crispy new office.

The production floor makes parts for Boeing and now they have a nice roomy factory to make them in.  

All the cords hanging from the ceiling look like a kelp forest in the ocean.

The worker's lunchroom has a cool little self-check convenience store. This would not be a good thing to have at my job! 

Here Bob shows me their cool new drinking fountain they have that also fills water bottles. 

And Bob's little home away from home.  

We took this picture from the end of the North Jetty that protects the mouth of the Columbia River. Cape Disappointment Lighthouse is on the hump in the middle of the picture and you can see Oregon in the distance. 

Some seagulls gathering on the shore for a gossip session in the sunshine. 

Although the tangle of rope and kelp are most likely just that, I'd like to believe it's Japanese tsunami debris. Apparently we are the only folks that walk the Long Beach peninsula and haven't found something yet. We did see the two lighthouses...North Head Lighthouse can be seen in the background behind the rope/kelp debris 

and the other is Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. This area was the terminus of the great Lewis & Clark expedition and home of the Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment. 

Another piece of Japanese tsunami debris...just humor me...on a beautiful timber we would have loved to taken home except for the fact we were in a State Park.

 Here are the rescue boats of Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment ready for "Go Time" as soon as they are called for an emergency.

This is a cool little place called Dead Man's Cove. This is where Bob and Logo had their big race match. Although it's hard to see in this picture, it's a small beach with steep sides. The only inlet is the tiny channel leading from the ocean. Sadly, it is now posted "No Trespassing" per the US Government. 

 Cape Disappointment Lighthouse from the Lewis and Clark Observation Center (that us cheapskates have never been inside of). The whale watchers club was stationed up here and had seen some gray whales that day. We hiked from the lighthouse to the observation center and back to the car. No treadmill for me today! You can see the inlet to Dead Man's Cove is right below the lighthouse.

After all the activity of the day we went back to the cabin and took a nap. After a while it sounded like there was a tractor in our bedroom. I was almost right. It was clearing the vacant land that was not 15 feet from the house. This picture was taken from bed and you can see the tractor working out there.  When we first bought the cabin we were behind two houses and a gas station with lots of trees and brush around us. The owner razed both old beach cabins and is now having all the vegetation removed. Now we are all that's happening on the entire block.

After we got home, Bob got the red Jag out of the garage and we took it for a nice drive to get it primed for the summer of activities he has planned for it.
