Chapter 109: Timmberrrr!

This weekend we went to the cabin for the first time in quite a while. Since all the bigger Long Beach festivals are past and we went "across the bridge" to Astoria to see the Astoria Timber Festival at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds.

It's not a huge show like the Morton Logger's Jubilee which we usually attend. (Richard, Chelsea, here's a homegrown activity you'd enjoy.) The Astoria Timber Festival featured mostly high school forestry students and logger's kids, and it was fun to see.

Here's the tree climb event:

This is a competition "hot saw". It's a V8 powered chainsaw made from a Buick 215 engine. It takes two guys to lift and it cuts a large log in just a couple of seconds. This is what it looked like after the first demonstration cut:

And this is what it looked like after they spilled gas on the engine then created a spark when they hooked up the battery:

The rest of the weekend was filled with napping and reading.
