After Christmas, we headed out to the cabin for New Year's. The weather promised to be positively horrible and did not let us down.
Our cabin turned out to be an "island of refuge" for those that invited themselves to visit. Everyone had their reasons for wanting to get away from their everyday lives and it turned into a very fun weekend.
Once Darla's dad, Daryl, heard there was a clam tide, he invited himself to go clamming. Daryl LOVES clamming and has been clamming at Long Beach for almost 50 years. Sooo, unwilling to disappoint Daryl, we pulled on our waders and braved the 50 mile and hour wind and horizontal rain to go get us some of the "little bastards" as Daryl called them. Well, the "little bastards" were smarter than we were and were on some sun-drenched beach somewhere. They were NOT on the beaches of Long Beach. Here's Daryl dressed and ready to go clamming:
Our friends Mark and Tracy had also invited themselves to the cabin and so Thursday night arrived with their trailer and parked in the driveway. They were followed closely behind by Chris, Roo, and Bear. Let the fun begin.
We all visited, played games and explored the Long Beach Peninsula then circled the wagons for more clamming on Saturday night. The night was gorgeous with shining stars and no wind or rain. Here's Chris 'n Roo posing with their clam guns before launching a beach assault on the clams.
Mark ready for the "Battle of the Clams":
Clams you say? Don't you mean "clam"? We had a couple of false alarms as we all gathered around for a "clamflagration" each time someone thought they saw a clam bubble.
Chris managed to capture the only clam on the beach. Here is Chris and his clam posing for the camera:
He was determined to make the most of his clam so he took it home, cleaned it, prepared it, and sat down to a satisfying clam and potato salad meal. Portions aren't what they used to be.
After Chris' satisfying clam meal, we all walked down to the boardwalk to watch New Year's fireworks at midnight. It was past our bedtime for all of us old folks!
Sunday we all packed up our toys and headed home. Our goal was met: Fun was had by all!

You had a pretty big bunch for the little cabin, so glad you had a good time isn't it fun to have a place for friends to gather. As for the clam digging I didn't realize you could dig after dark !!! G&GBook
