Chapter 452

Sunday, July 8th

Reagan celebrated National Blueberry Day by picking the first blueberry of the season from the bush in her yard. Yum!

Back on the home front, my garden is growing lots of greens, lots of sugar snap peas, and LOTS of lettuce! Feel free to knock on our door if you want lettuce.

Carissa, Reagan, and Chris went to an air and car show at the Gig Harbor Airport on the Fourth of July. When she saw this bi-plane, she was super excited and yelled that "This is just like Amelia Earhart's airplane!"

And then when they got to the firetruck "This is just like Uncle Scott's Firetruck!". No shortages of experiences for this kid, that's for sure.

While the Walkers were spending their day productively educating their kid, I lounged on the patio with Nitro and

we were fully engulfed in our activities. We are not neat and tidy crafty folks, we are messy crafty folks!

Our white-trash truck shack blew off the truck...again.  We had it tied down to the truck but forgot to retie it after we used the truck last. This is the second time our carport has taken flight. You should have seen these old folks run to the backyard to catch this giant kite. Since this wasn't my first rodeo, let me tell you, it's a lot easier to tame a fully airborne carport with two people hanging off of it than just me like it was last time. We tried to steer the carport toward the slide tower and rode it to a stop. Then it's a race to peel the panels off of it so it doesn't take off  again with a couple of old people clinging to the rails like kite tails. Who knows where we would have ended up.

Bob got it reinstalled, this time in the side yard, and it's permanently anchored again. This makes for easier access to the garage and the carport is more out of the way and protected, and hopefully, more protected from the wind. It also gives a larger area for it to fly before there is anything to stop it if it ever gets loose again.

Nitro loves to watch fireworks. At the cabin he had a 360° view and would hear a bang and run to that window to watch the colors.  Since the Fourth was on a weekday, everyone got an early start with their fireworks so Nitro took his front row position to watch them.

Watching fireworks eventually required a nap so he took a quick nap in the chair with me to save up the strength for more firework spotting. He didn't even twitch when the huge explosions went off.

As you can see Nitro is front and center to watch the action. No scaredy cat here.

Reagan sent us a nice little thank you note, in her own writing, for the week she stayed with us. Her writing is getting so good for a four-year old. She is also working hard at sounding out words on signs and books now. Reading is coming next!

After a relaxing evening of fireworks watching Nitro settles in for a restful night of sleep.

I hate to thin my carrots. I feel like a carrot murderer and don't have the heart to pull up perfectly good little baby carrots. If they are planted too close together, the carrots just kind of meld together into little chicken foot shaped Frankenstein carrots.

Bear also loves fresh carrots. I happened to give this carrot to Bear, but he has been known to pull carrots up with his teeth and eat them, dirt and all. This year I planted the carrots in a less dog accessible location in the garden. Such a goofy dog.

My beets have lots of tops, but not much beets. I guess it is a little early and I need to give them a break.

The flowers are doing a great job of looking amazing. The colors are really striking this year.

I don't know what these are called since I bought them on clearance last fall but I love the colors!

Same with these...

And I looove these petunias!

Saturday afternoon at the Book house. I'm the lone adult on watch while Carissa and Bob sleep their afternoon away while Reagan waters the flowers.

...and Bear.

Beautiful hyacinths in Eileen's yard are amazing!

Reagan has been so gentle with Nitro that the notorious people-hater has been won over. She loves to pet him gently and he has fully accepted that she's not actually a lethal predator in his home.

Nothing like making a "mud volcano" in the garden at the crack of dawn in Grampa's t-shirt jammies.

Then Reagan and Carissa had a treasure hunt in the backyard. Reagan has her treasure map on a clipboard and Carissa has her coffee as they walked around the yard looking for treasure and enjoying the warm sunny morning.

Then it was time to go and Reagan had to do up the dishes before she goes. Gotta carry your weight around here.

Reagan is diversifying her talents and taking up ballet, well for the four weeks of the YMCA course! As you can see, she loves her little skirt!  I think she looks a little like Payton without her glasses  with her hair put back like this.

And on the fluffy skirt note, Reagan is dressed for the Kingston Fourth of July parade in another fluffy skirt. She does love herself a parade!

And on that note, Super Reagan says "See you next week!"
