Chapter 90: Spring "Break"?

Spring break at last!!! Freedom, sleeping, exotic places...the beach.

Saturday we loaded the car with our stuff and our cat and headed for the cabin for a few restful days. Our "project of the week" was to raise the ceiling of the porch bedrooms. The previous owner's attempt to "update" the place was unsucessful when they lowered the ceiling to the lowest point in an effort to make the place look like something other than an enclosed porch. Um, that's just what it is an you can't hide it so we decided to roll with it.

 

Sooo one thing led to another and let's just say Bob didn't limit himself to the ceiling. Pretty soon old painted over paneling is flying everywhere. You can see the window we covered over on the right side of the picture.

 

Of course, this required a trip to Astoria to buy tax-free building materials. In our defense, it's the closest building material store to the cabin. Anyway, on the way back, we saw the USCG practicing (I hope) water rescue so we pulled over and watched them train. The helicopter lowered a diver into the water, followed by another. Then they were both hauled back into the helicopter. A USCG boat waited nearby to pluck the divers out of the water in case of any mishaps. I took a phone pic so it's not too clear, but you can just make out the rescue divers under the helicopter. Someday, someone somewhere will be darn glad to see these guys drop out of a helicopter and rescue them. It takes a special kind of person to drop out of a perfectly helicopter into the sea!

There isn't much room if you evacuate half the cabin to the other half.

Nitro humbugged all the chaos by staying in the bedroom napping in the fleeting patches of sun.

And here is the result of 4 long days of work. The first picture is the cabin as we bought it. The room we redid is where the desk chair is.

You might have noticed it's missing one of the windows and the door. No, that wasn't an accident because we were in a hurry, we actually meant to eliminate them.

It's been three years and we are finally getting most of our planned projects accomplished. Yay Bob!

Now we are back home hoping to rest up during the last of our spring break.
