Chapter 127: Our Weekend

As previously discussed, spring is here. That means we have two lawns to take care of. One of them requires a 3 hour drive to have the privilege of mowing it. Since it was nice when we arrived late Friday, Bob busted out the mower and we got started.

Look at these beautiful little lawn daisies. It was sad to have to mow them down.

After mowing (twice), raking, wheel barrowing the grass to the compost heap and Weed Eating, we headed off to The Lost Roo for dinner and a brew. I love that they each came in the proper glasses.

This was the first time we've been to the cabin since Obie's the old abandoned gas station on the corner had been razed., Click "Obie's" link above for the news story in the Chinook Observer newspaper

This is now the view from the cabin. Obie's used to block our view of the intersection. We now have a tiny peek-a-boo view of the ocean. Maybe we could talk the city into removing the bank across the street so we have a larger view. The bad news is since removing the old abandoned beach house, Obie's and the trees that were between us and the signals at the intersection, there is nothing to buffer the noise of the go-carts that are on the opposite corner.

This is the view of our lonely little cabin from the intersection.Without the other two houses, trees, and Obies, we are all alone on the block now.

Saturday we took a trip to Ilwako to the Saturday Market. This boat has been for sale for quite a while. It's kind of ironic that it's for sale considering it's name.

Next we went to Astoria to go to Costco...and our favorite Goodwill...so we toured by the Astoria Airport passenger terminal. When I saw the fancy sign that said "Port of Astoria Passenger Terminal", this is NOT what I had pictured.

This azalea bush is crammed with blossoms. Grama loved the color of this bush and took lots of pictures of it when she was visiting the cabin.

A quick tour around the yard showed spring has sprung at the beach as well as home. As well as the azalea pack with beautiful pink blooms, we have striking red rhododendrons....

A lone lily of the valley in the unmown grass.

We trimmed the plum tree last year and it's full of blooms this year. Maybe I'll get a plum before the birds get them all!

Rock daisies

Some unknown purple flowers in front of the boat propeller that Grampa gave us.

One of my beach finds on the woodpile by the shop. I can't decide if this photo looks "artsy" or just plain junky.

Saturday night we took a walk on the beach boardwalk. The sky was full of beautiful colors and cloud shapes.

This cool piece of driftwood looks different in every kind of light.

When we got home from the beach, the moon was just coming up. This particular moon is called a "supermoon"  it is about 13% larger than the average full moon.

On my way back into the house I noticed that Venus was really bright. This is a picture of Venus over the cupola of our garage. It was a beautiful night at the beach.

Since Sunday at noon was the Loyalty day parade in Long Beach, we headed home early to avoid getting behind all the crazy stuff we watched roll into town on Saturday. We really didn't want to get stuck behind a train built on a bus chassis, the Winlock Egg Days float

a huge steam donkey advertising the Centralia Logger's Rodeo, or look at the back of a bus like this on a highway where there is rarely a chance to pass.

On the way home, Nitro's black fur was collecting the heat from the afternoon sun and he started getting really warm. Rather than find somewhere cooler, he chose to stay on my lap and overheat. I put my iced tea on his tummy expecting a yowl of complaint but he really seemed to enjoy the coolness and slept with cool cup for about an hour until we finally got home. Then he went to his new "catio" and enjoyed some fresh air.
